Tuesday night, I just crashed July 13

i kept busy yesterday.  with big breaks in between wondering what to do next.

I did hang ammonia soaked rags around the orchard.  Hung out the laundry and started to stain the deck.  I cleaned the bathroom in the big house and washed a couple windows.

All the plants are doing well.  I can see there will be a nice little crop of tomatoes .    Lots of blossoms on the peppers too.

After hanging  the rags around the orchard i decided to walk through the meadow toward the pond and a big blue heron rose up out of the pond weeds and flew towards Bald Rock.

I also saw something crawling across the floor in front of the washing machine.  i think it was a millipede?  kind of a hard shell on it and 5 inches long  ,  reddish brown in color and too many legs to count.

Jackrabbits were scurrying around in circles just above the trail into the woods.  And one big fluffy squirrel  sat on the railing over near the upper gate just watching me, while i had my lunch outside.  I heard something pushing leaves around the ground just out of site up behind the garage, just above the "bridge" .  I told it i was sitting here and if it stayed up there i would stay down here,  so squirrel or deer or bear,  whomever it was stopped.  i didn't hear it coming or going.

This morning i was making the bed and out the corner of my eye saw something sliding out into the yard just below the boat, between where the orchard and gardens are, out from the property that's right n Bald Rock Road. I couldn't tell exactly what it was between the leaves of the pear tree it was red and slender and i thought first a dog or a cat....but when she got into the clearing i saw a young doe ,  with big ears.

She moved toward the orchard nibbling grass but kept looking over her shoulder.  It appeared as if she was calling someone.  and then i glanced to where she was looking and saw a young buck standing at the edge of the yard.   He was very cautious.

They became aware of my big white nightgown and the predatory eye of my Canon Lens and he turned and bounced back into the cover of the thicket while she turned and slowly walked up toward the barn and turned down the hill to that stand of tall pines.   I did get a shot of her but was waiting for him to come into the clearing and he never did so i didn't get the chance to photograph him.

Isn't it early for him to be following her?  Or do they have family units?

Oh Mary,  Larry Smith called yesterday.  Checking up on me, i think.  Nice of him.  He was going to be headed up to Bucks lake with Linda Holt and her daughter.  We spoke about me cleaning his house.  He is so funny,  he says he dosn't care when his buddies visit but likes a clean house when he is entertaining a gal.    LLOL ...
He blew up the engine n his Subaru ,  he will probably call you guys in Montana.

I spoke with the Bybees too.  I need to find   a Home Depot so  called Kim, since he would know about wood stain and where the Home Depot would be.

I had cleaned off the deck Monday and well,  started to stain it yesterday afternoon.

I put the little boom box on the porch and was playing Tara's wedding CD.

I used the open can of  Wood Finish in Natural Cedar number 501.  First i used a little brush for all the little edges and then began rolling on the gorgeous deep red ,  like the Madrone before it peels,  just singing my heart out to old Mo-town and  rolling on the stain.

I ran out of Natural Cedar number 501 just about 3 plank widths before i finished the top deck.   So opened the can of Wood Stain in Natural Cedar number 1338 and looked in shocked disbelief at the yellowy, orangey brown stain inside the can, the same color as the  Madrone after it sheds its beautiful deep red skin.

Well ,i,  HOPED ,  that well,  maybe when it dried it would look more similar.   But it doesn't.   The new can of stain matches the house but not the deck.

So next Monday when i go to town Ill also get on 70 toward Chico and take the 2nd exit and go across the cross road and into the Home Depot on the right.....and find Wood Finish in Natural Cedar number 501( or whatever number it is,  ill write it down before i go though)

The Bybees have a craft show this weekend in Paradise  but Aylin suggested that we have a little dinner together next week.  cool.

Sorry to hear how awful the weather was in New England yesterday.  Keith said 75 when he got up at 6am with 85% humidity.  thats just horrible.

Mona is stopping by here this afternoon when she gets out of work. Keenan was in the hospital.  Erin you met Keenan.  Mary ,  i think she is going to call you.   She has calld here 3 times this morning  so i think she must be anxious to speak to you.  or just frazzled.....

Kate i hope Brenna is better for you today.  make sure to let me know.

Keithie and Nicole,  how are the boys doing?  Did Jake get that virus too?
You guys must be having a great summer at your new house.  So much room for the little guys to play.  How are you feeling Cole?  Did we find out yet?
Let me know as soon as you do!
Ill call you guys this week .

Today i will go to the post office and maybe go to Bald Rock.  I keep telling myself " tomorrow im going to get up around 4 and go to Bald Rock and catch some photos of the sun coming up and shining down on the valley and reflecting off of the Sutter Buttes"         ......but......well,  maybe Tomorrow.

Last night i went to bed before 9 and was sleeping before the stars were out. But woke up cold around 2, hobbled downstairs to the bathroom and i remembered seeing a down comforter in the bedroom between the sitting chair and the dresser.  Im grateful to Mary and Al for leaving it there. ( of course i could have closed the window .....but why? )

I think there is going to be a full moon either tonight or tomorrow.  You should see how the moonlight lights up the meadow...

by now im figuring out that i have more time for writing than any of you have time for reading and so am going to stop chewing off your ears.

Love and miss you
sal/mom
